Loved the article. Very insightful and helped introduce me to some new concepts and ways of things about gamification. Especially the “roaming in a free world” part compared to browsing in the app.
Extrinsic rewards cannot get you too far (loved your example about the kiss). However we see products today believe that if they provide extrinsic rewards for a certain behaviour, the user will get habituated and will continue it even after the reward is removed. For example, discounted rides on Uber that get you to form a habit of booking through the app. Do you think this is destined for failure, or are there scenarios where this works?
